This is a different blog than I usually post. But this morning, while reading the Scriptures, this contrast set in Titus 1 and 2 struck me as a great reminder of the contrast between secular and Christian people. I encourage you to read the Epistle of Titus and observe this contrast. You may use different verbiage than I to reflect Paul’s descriptions. Nonetheless, you will capture the contrast. In the context of the contrasts, Paul indicates the responsibility of Titus and us in terms of our responsibility in culture—teaching and living with Hope of Jesus’ return.
Unbeliever—Secular
Rebellious
Empty talkers
Deceivers
Teachers of error
Incapable of clear-thinking
Corrupted code for life
Profession without performance
Believer—Sacred
Dignified
Reverent
Gossip free
No wine abuse
Sensible
Doers of good works
Pure doctrine
Role appropriate
Respect for employer
No pilfering
Demonstrator of good faith
Hope in certainty of Jesus’ return
When we consider the whole of Scripture concerning Christian living, it can be summed up as BE and demonstrated in living. Too often, believers slip into a secular modality, which means they start adopting worldly values and behaviors, sometimes unawares, sometimes intentionally to adapt to culture. This is a reminder for us to stay true to our Christian values and not let the world influence us negatively.
