The Idolatry of the Left Is Ever Present
Rather like the Baals of the Ancient World, the Left Is ever present even in conservative and largely mildly evangelical Alabama. All those Baals are about me feeling good.
The Alabama Board of Education (BOE) met on Thursday with Gov. Kay Ivey recognizing Rev. Candice Frazer of the Church of the Ascension in Montgomery to offer an opening prayer.
During the prayer, Frazer called for those in attendance to “ask forgiveness for those things we have done and those things we have left undone.” Going on to say, “We acknowledge and bewail our shortcomings and failures…The racial injustice we perpetuate through our policies and practices and removal of diversity, equity, and inclusive programs.” (Reported in several news sources).
Then, on Thursday morning, I read the following regarding a Turning Point event on the campus of the University of Alabama Huntsville campus (Reported in several sources. I drew on 1819 News), A student stepped up to pose his questions wearing a garment displaying a dead giveaway of what we might expect to hear from him. His garment front read, “Hail Satan.”
His question as reported was in essence, “Are you basing your idea that homosexuality is an abomination just on Bible texts?” He continued, “that’s weird because to hyper fixate on.” He went on to explain that it shows up in nature and expresses frustration that such is the basis of pushing legislation to outlaw it.
His justification for the practice is it “feel good.” The rest of his rather ridiculous reasoning I’ll not cite since I’d consider it too crude for my readers. Suffice it to say, the young man’s ability to articulate his beef, left the university with a black eye.
Several weeks ago, another situation was unveiled regarding a rather curious lab on the South Alabama campus.
What We Need to Learn from Josiah
When the Scriptures and our Founding Documents reflecting a biblical value system dominated the culture, we had our share Baal kind of idols appearing from time to time. But the more with have extinguished the influence of Christianity (here and other western countries), the more these aberrations become established. We should not be surprised at this. Israel cycled through the same situation repeatedly.
For example, Judah was in serious trouble when (2 Kings 22,12-13), the High Priest Hilkiah discovered the lost “Book of the Law” while repairing the Temple in Jerusalem. Josiah had it read in his hearing. He his robes in repentance, fearing God’s wrath over Judah’s disobedience, leading to massive religious reforms and renewal in accordance with the book.
His sons largely reigned as wicked kings who abandoning their father’s reforms, bringing evil upon Judah, reestablishing idolatry fostering the rapid decline of the nation and the judgment of God.
How to Have Revival and Stamp Out Idolatry
Revival from the top seldom endures as observed in Josiah’s sons. What we need in the west is a grassroots revival. We need multiple Jonathan Edwards and D.L. Moodys, but more than that we need the army of self-proclaim evangelicals to model righteous, God only worship. We need this army of evangelicals, everyone, on the front lines evangelizing and discipling just like Jesus commanded in the Great Commission. The best way to control evil in the culture is to fill the culture with God-fearing, God-worshiping citizens.
