Twenty Words That Bring Joy to Every Christian

  1. Remember: 

This is the Day the Lord has made, and be glad in it Ps. 118:24; Remember and repent when you have fallen (Rev 3:5)

  1. Focus:  

Make Jesus the Apple of your eye: Focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Heb 12:2

  1. Observe: 

the beauty and wonder of nature. The heavens declare the glory of God. Ps 19:1

  1. Consider: 

You were bought with a price (I Cor 6:20); you no longer must sin, for you have been set free from the bondage of sin. Rom 6:1-13

  1. Contemplate: 

You are a child of God, a joint heir with Jesus. John 3:7, Rom. 8:17

  1. Thanksgiving: 

These imperatives regarding thanksgiving: 1) In every circumstance, give thanks; 2) give thanks while presenting your concerns to God; 3) Give thanks for His unfailing love (I Thes 5:18, Phil 4:6, Ps 107:15, 106:1)

  1. Practice:

Living like the Apostle Paul (Phil 4:9, I Cor 11:1)

  1. Revisit: 

Both the biblical record and your personal life to remember what God has done (Duet 4:9-12, Ex 13:3, I Cor 6:20)

  1. Learn: 

Know your God and how He relates to you by each characteristic. (Ex 3:13-15, Gen 22)

  1. Rejoice:

Whatever the circumstances, this is another imperative. (Phil 4:4)

  1. Content:

Even in the hard places and the hard times, choose to be content (Phil 4:11)

  1. Stand:

When under attack, stand having done everything you can, stand (Eph 6:13)

  1. Anticipate:

(I Thes 2:19, Rom 8:4, 

  1. Growth:

Engage in growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  1. Go:

While going, be making disciples of every nation (Matt 28:1820)

  1. Pray:

In everything by prayer and supplication…let your requests be made known to God (Phil 4:6)

As taught by Jesus (Matt 6:9-13) and as modeled by Jesus (John 17) and Paul (Eph 1, 3. 6)

  1. Forgive:

God models forgiveness, and we are exhorted to practice the model (Eph 4:32, Col 3:13).

  1. Endurance:

Endurance under pressure yields maturity (I Pet 2:19-20, Heb 12:7, James 2:1-4). You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand (James 5:7-11) 

  1. Faith:

This is the core of Christianity and the Christian life (Heb. 11:1). The word believe is synonymous with faith (Heb 11:6)—believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved (Acts 16:31). It is the means of living out the Christian faith (2 Cor 5:7).

  1. Trust:

Trusting God rather than trusting yourself is the essence of wisdom, equipping the believer to make life decisions on the fly (Prov 3:5-6).
