Consider What You Allow You Soul to Resource

Take time this week to ponder this Scriptural information.

All the problems of life are a result of our sin nature tapping into one of these three toxic sources (I John 2:16-18) for which the Devil provides an array of options. (John 8:44). John clearly teaches us “For all that is in the world is not of the Father but is of the world.” 

The lust of the flesh—longing for sensual gratification

Proverbs 6:25:

“Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes”. This verse warns against lustful desires and emphasizes the importance of resisting temptation. 

Proverbs 7:21

“With her many persuasions she entices him; with her flattering lips she seduces him”. This passage highlights the dangers of being seduced by flattering words and promises, particularly in the context of relationships. 

Proverbs 3:5

“For the lips of an adulteress drip honey and smoother than oil is her speech”. This verse warns of the deceptive nature of those who prioritize sensual gratification and the dangers of their words. 

Proverbs 6:23-24

“For a commandment is a lamp, and a law is a light, and reproofs of discipline are the way of life, to keep you from the evil woman, from the flattering tongue of a foreign woman.” 

Proverbs 7:10-23

This chapter warns against the dangers of sexual immorality and the consequences of pursuing sensual gratification outside of marriage.

Proverbs 21:17

“Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich.”

The lust of the eyes—avarice longings of the mind

Proverbs 6:25

Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes.

Matthew 5:28

But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Genesis 3:6

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate,

Exodus 20:17

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

James 1:15

Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

The pride of life —confidence in one’s own resources

Corinthians 4:7

For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

Galatians 5:17

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

Deuteronomy 8:10-14

When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you. “Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest—when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

Deuteronomy 32:15

“But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked;
You grew fat, you grew thick,
You are obese!
Then he forsook God who made him,
And scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

Proverbs 14:3

In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride,
But the lips of the wise will preserve them.

Proverbs 18:11-12

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
And like a high wall in his own esteem.
Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty,
And before honor is humility.

Proverbs 26:12

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Ezekiel 16:49

Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Habakkuk 2:4-5

“Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith. “Indeed, because he transgresses by wine,
He is a proud man,
And he does not stay at home.
Because he enlarges his desire as hell,
And he is like death, and cannot be satisfied,
He gathers to himself all nations
And heaps up for himself all peoples.
