HOW MUCH OF WHAT I AM THINKING REFLECTS WHAT I READ AND LISTEN TO FROM THE CULTURE RATHER THAN THOSE WHO ARE COMMITTED TO THE FEAR OF GOD?

My astute friend and colleague, Dr. Kevin Carson, writes what he calls “The One Minute Monday” in his daily blog, which you can read regularly at KevinCarson.com. This morning’s minute bears a special observation in our current culture, where most folks get their daily intake of information from digital media and absorb it as fact.

You could say, “Well, what I believe, is just what I have heard, what I have watched online, seen on a bunch of reels, YouTube videos, read on blogs, or heard this one guy, ten guys, or a hundred guys say… I’ve read research…”

Here’s the question: The people that you are listening to and the people that you are allowing to do your research for you, are those people committed to the fear of God?

If they are not committed to the fear of God, it is like bellying up to a table. and that table is full of rotten food.

Why? Because the Bible clearly states, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Prov 1:7).

And, if you are going to live life in a way that honors God, you must do it wisely.

If you are going to pull up to a table of whatever wisdom sources you have, you must be asking yourself, “Does this person respect God who is the Creator? Does this person respect the way God created? Does this person respect the image of God? Does this person respect Jesus Christ and the message of the gospel? Does this person respect the Bible as God’s holy Word?”

If this person does not respect all of that, I am suggesting to you that it may taste good and make you feel good, but as you know, sometimes what may taste good and feel good can kill you. So, be very careful.

Ask yourself, are they committed to the fear of God?

Will you commit this week to consider the source of what you are reading, thinking about, and dwelling upon? Will you choose to listen to God and those who fear the Lord?
