Twenty-Five Words That Bring Joy To Every Christian

1. Remember:

This is the Day the Lord has made, and be glad in it (Ps. 118:24); Remember and repent when you have fallen (Rev 3:5)

2. Focus:

Make Jesus the Apple of your eye: Focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. (Heb 12:2)

3. Observe:

The beauty and wonder of nature. The heavens declare the glory of God. *Ps 19:1)

4. Consider:

You were bought with a price (I Cor 6:20); you no longer must sin, for you have been set free from the bondage of sin (Rom 6:1-13).

5. Contemplate:

You are a child of God, a joint heir with Jesus. John (3:7, Rom. 8:17)

6. Thanksgiving:

These imperatives regarding thanksgiving: 1) In every circumstance, give thanks; 2) give thanks while presenting your concerns to God; 3) Give thanks for His unfailing love (I Thes 5:18, Phil 4:6, Ps 107:15, 106:1)

7. Practice:

Living like the Apostle Paul (Phil 4:9, I Cor 11:1)

8. Covenant

Both the biblical record of the covenants and Jesus’ personal covenant with you ( Gen12:1-3, 15:1-6, 17, II Sam 7, I Chron 17:11-14, II Chron 6:16, John 10:28, Heb 13:5)

9. Learn:

Know your God and how He relates to you by each characteristic. (Ex 3:13-15, Gen 22)

10. Rejoice:

Whatever the circumstances, this is a twice over imperative. (Phil 4:4)

11. Content:

Even in the hard places and the hard times, choose to be content (Phil 4:11)

12. Stand:

When under attack, stand having done everything you can, stand (Eph 6:13)

13. Anticipation:

The return of Jesus (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

To experience it (I Cor 15:1-8; I John 3:2)

14. Holy, Holy, Holy

That we are loved by a Trinitarian God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

The Father so loved us (John 3:16)

The Son died for us (Rom 5:8)

The Spirit indwells us (John 14:17, I Cor 6:19-20)

15. Go:

While going, be making disciples of every nation (Matt 28:1820)

16. Pray:

In everything by prayer and supplication…let your requests be made known to God (Phil 4:6)

As taught by Jesus (Matt 6:9-13) and as modeled by Jesus (John 17) and Paul (Eph 1, 3. 6)

17. Forgive:

God models forgiveness, and we are exhorted to practice the model (Eph 4:32, Col 3:13).

18. Endurance:

Endurance under pressure yields maturity (I Pet 2:19-20, Heb 12:7, James 2:1-4). You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand (James 5:7-11)

19. Faith:

This is the core of Christianity and the Christian life (Heb. 11:1). The word believe is synonymous with faith (Heb 11:6)—believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved (Acts 16:31). It is the means of living out the Christian faith (2 Cor 5:7).

20. Trust:

Trusting God rather than trusting yourself is the essence of wisdom, equipping the believer to make life decisions on the fly (Prov 3:5-6).

21. Grateful:

From Jonah to Paul, a grateful spirit is observed in God’s people (Jonah 2:9). The translators prefer the word thanksgiving to translate eucharistic. However, there are times when grateful would nuance it properly. Being thankful focuses on expression, while being grateful focuses on attitude (I Thes 5:18)

22. Fellowship:

The proper way to think about New Testament fellowship is best seen in III John, where he writes about it, though he does not use the word.  The word fellowship in the Bible is not about getting together for a social interchange. It is about corporately getting spiritualwork done, and often, this is about encouraging one another regarding the spiritual dynamics of living (III Hohn, I Thes 4:11, Heb 10:25, I John 1:3).

23. Joy:

Joy is the result of inward peace that is the outgrowth of trusting God in all circumstances. (Phil 4:4-9). It is not something to be sought but rather the by-product of trusting obedience.

24. Transformation:

This is what the Holy Spirit is about in every believer: renewing our thinking to renew our behavior (Rom 12:1-2, Eph 4:22:43, Rom 6:1-13).

25. Holy:

The theme of Scripture is Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty (Rev 4:8). The seraphim were calling out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory” (Is 6:3). “Because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of person judges according to every man’s work (I Pet 1:16-17.)
